Bungoma County level games that started on Thursday this week at Bungoma High school grounds has come to a conclusion today except from soccer finals for the boys which was abandoned yesterday after a disruption caused by fans in a match between Kibabii Boys and Bukembe which was to determine the winner who was to face Lukhuna that qualified for the finals by beating Kabula 1-0.
Brenda Girls secured a chance to proceed to regional leg balls after facing Moi Girls Kamusinga in a tough match and managed to beat them 3 – 1. In volleyball Girls Lugulu played against Miruri in the finals and won 3 sets to nil. The two are now the Bungoma County champions in leg ball and volleyball respectively. For volleyball boys Namwela emerged the top by beating Teremi 3 sets to 2 after an interesting game that excited the fans that showed up in large numbers.
Soccer champion, Bungoma County is yet to be determined because the final that was to be played yesterday did not happen because of the chaos and disruption caused by Kibabii Boys fans who felt like the centre referee was unfair to them. The incident that forced the match to be abandoned made the sports officials to call for a meeting that was chaired by County Chair Sports Madam Florence, principals from the two opposing teams were also present and a verdict that was not final was decided where Kibabii was to be banned for two years but they appealed and another meeting was set today to determine the way forward by tomorrow so as to ensure the games are completed.
In an interview with West FM, the Sports Secretary Bungoma County, Ngichabe Eric said that no game will be played that is semis or finals for the boys until the two teams and officials in charge come to an agreement that will be fair to all.
” We looked at challenges and problems that were in the game between Bukembe and Kibabii and we made a decision in our meeting, a decision that is not final and according to Kenya Secondary School Constitution (KSSC) that was the first jury that made the decision that was handed to Kibabii for them to appeal to the supreme jury where the officials will review the first verdict and make their own verdict which will either overturn the first jury decision or uphold it, so we cannot say the two teams are proceeding right now, ” he said.
Earlier, Teremi Boys was banned from participating in the games on Friday after the sports officials identified that the team had fielded two players from Kibabii University and other two from Trans Nzoia County. Some teams from Mt. Elgon had also to return home after an unsuccessful dispute and petition among officials.
The fans who had also shown up today in large numbers to witness soccer finals had to console themselves with the volleyball games and return home disappointed by the long time that is taken by the jury to decide how the games should continue and end well.
