Bunyala West Member of County Assembly in Busia County Carlbenz Okonya is facing what is termed a befoulment case on his stature as an honorable member after being arrested and arraigned in court over a defilement case involving a 14-year-old.
Okonya who was arrested on Friday 22nd of September 2023, was released on Ksh 30,000 bond at The Port Victoria Police Station after the arrest.
In his arraignment on Tuesday at Busia Law Courts under Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti, where he is facing two counts; Defilement and making love with a minor, the Bunyala West Ward representative is said to have committed the alleged atrocious offense to the minor on 27th August 2023 at 10pm near township area in Busia town.
Despite pleading not guilty to the alleged heinous act, Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti ordered that he be detained until Wednesday when the decision on his request to be released on bail will be determined.
Further, the prosecution under Faith Kaberia wanted the accused to be detained for 14 more days to allow them to arrange for the girl’s and witnesses’ security.
There are some unconfirmed allegations that the case was transferred to Busia Law Court from Port Victoria after the Judge felt insecure handling the case.
