Champions of the East African region in the boys’ volleyball game, Namwela boys from Sirisia Bungoma County, arrived safely at their school on Wednesday from Rwanda, where they participated in the East African school games competition for high schools, an event that lasted for one week; starting 19th to 29th August 2023.
Namwela boys disapproved many with their success since they had finished third in the national championships in Kenya.
RuthiMitu from Nairobi County and Andersen from Trans Nzoia who finished in first and second place respectively were favorites in the East African competitions but their efforts went in vain as they saw Namwela clinch the regional title.

The team’s coach, Isaac Mresh, says the victory was as a result of prayers, hard work and good will from the community, which has been close and supportive.
“I would like to thank the Namwela community for the support they have been giving to this team, without you we would not have won this title. I would also like the community to bring us students, while at school they will have a good chance to study apart from being involved in sports.” Mresh said
The principal Namwela Boys Mr. Stephen Mutaki says that apart from the school winning the East African championship, they learned a lot from Rwanda.
“I feel proud that the Namwela School has emerged as the champions of East Africa. We finished in third place during the national finals but we worked hard to get this East African title.
Apart from sports, I learned that the Rwandan nation is more disciplined. From roads, cleanliness among other issues. That taught me that with discipline everything will be easy.” Mutaki said
The CEC in charge of sports, gender, youth and culture in Bungoma County, Agnes Wachiye was in the school to witness the hero’s welcome of the boys who have brought the County praise and recognition.
Namwela boys are now expected to represent the East African region in Serbia where the continental competition will be held in April, 2024.
