Permanent Secretary for Crops and Development Dr. Paul Rono has appealed to farmers to be content with the current maize price of kshs 4000 per 90Kg which he supported as profitable.
He stated that after carefully putting in mind the farm inputs that the government incurred as well as total output of produce realized so far to make that one bag and that the price of maize flour has gone up, the price was sufficient and that in future the government will look into the factors that farmers have complained about.
PS Rono expressed his satisfaction of bumper harvest following what he termed as good agricultural practices done by farmers.
He said this after officially opening Kitale ASK National show accompanied by his counterpart for Micro and Small enterprise State Department Susan Mang’eni and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya
He further disclosed that the government will open up NCPB stores in a month’s time so that farmers can start selling their produce saying that it has taken long to do so as it was repairing driers.
On her part, PS Mang’eni noted that her department will in consultation with County government work in realization of more industrial parks that will help expand more markets for business to thrive asTrans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya called upon national government to help in eradicating post harvest losses witnessed after harvest.
