The Ministry of Health on Monday hosted a Universal Health Coverage demonstration and conference in Kericho County.
The four-day exhibition and conference is taking place at Kaptatet Stadium ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations on Friday 20th 2023.
According to the health ministry, the event serves as a forerunner to the grand launch of UHC on Mashujaa Day which will be taking place on Friday, October in Kericho.
The health exhibition was officially opened by the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is Universal Health Care.
One Hundred thousand Community Health Promoters are already at the scene of the event. The health ministry in a statement said, “the event will focus on the ministry’s objectives in the journey towards UHC, which include establishing useful Primary Healthcare Networks (PCNs) and cultivating a motivated and skilled community
health workforce”.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Kericho residents and those from neighbouring Counties who wish to attend Mashujaa Day celebrations to wake up early.
Speaking in Kericho during the opening of the UHC event, the DP disclosed that on Mashujaa day, the gates to the stadium will be opened to the public from as early as 3am. He called on those who wished to attend to wake up early and be at the stadium on time.
The second in command said the function will begin early due to the current weather conditions, noting that the move is aimed at avoiding unnecessary disruptions from the rains being witnessed across the country.
“The gates will open at 3am and the stadium is small so you should get there on time. We will have our officers who will be showing you where to sit and it will be a celebration to remember,” he said.
Preparations for the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations expected to take place in Kericho County are already in the final gears. The celebrations will take place at Kericho Green Stadium on October 20, 2023.
