A sorrowful mood gripped Soko Mapanga village in Sinoko location after a 24 year old man committed suicide by hanging himself inside his house on Monday evening.
According to the deceased’s mother Ms. Judith Nanjala, her son Peter Mbugua looked disturbed psychologically and he might have taken the decision out of depression. She said the deceased has been having a regular feud with his wife before she packed her belongings and went back to her parents.
However, she said after her departure he has never been at peace adding that prior to the incident he had twice tried to commit suicide unsuccessfully. She said in the first incident he took poison on 3rd December, 2020 before he was rescued and rushed to hospital where he was treated and discharged but after gaining stability he threw himself in Nzoia river before he was again saved by a group of men who were near the river.
After the two attempts failing, she said he requested her to allow him to move from the compound to go and live elsewhere where he could do business. “He told me he wanted to move from here and even asked me to call a lorry that could carry his belongings,” said Ms. Nanjala.
She said the father of two entered his house to pack his property in readiness to move to a place of his desire but after sometime she went to check on him before she could call the lorry and she was shocked to find his body dangling from the top of the house.
Confirming the incident, Namunyiri sub location assistant Chief Ms. Caroline Vugutsa urged residents to seek guidance and counseling when they feel disturbed psychologically saying the deceased could have been saved if the family could have taken him for counseling. The body was removed by police and taken to Kitale mortuary as they launched investigations into the incident.
