A 29 year old man from Chemichemi village, Mautuma location in Lugari Sub County died after being struck by lightning.
Confirming the incident, Mbagara sub location assistant chief Mrs Joseline Juma, said the deceased who was identified as Peter Musoga Juma was inside his house baking buns when the tragedy struck.
“The man normally bakes and supplies ‘Kangumu’ to local shops here and he was preparing them during the heavy downpour when he was struck by the lightning,” said Mrs. Juma.
The administrator said the victim was rescued in critical condition and rushed to Mautuma Sub County Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following the tragedy, area residents led by Miss Concepta Nekesa and Luka Saya have appealed to both national and Kakamega county governments to install lightning arrestors in the area in order to prevent such incidences from occurring in future.
