An elderly woman at Kasarani village, Kongoni location in Likuyani Sub County is calling for legal redress after her five year old orphaned granddaughter was defiled and seriously injured by a 31 years old known man.
Speaking to West FM, the granny, Mrs. Beatrice Nanyama, narrated how the suspect, Mr. James Kipkoech, abducted her grandchild who is a standard one pupil at Mukunga Primary School before he committed the beastly act on her at about 1pm.
“Besides blood oozing from her private parts, my granddaughter was also walking in difficulty when she arrived home,” explained 80 year old granny who further recalled how the girl recounted to her the ordeal she had gone through while in hands of her defiler.
The pupil was returning home from school at the time of the incident.
But according to the granny, despite the minor ‘correctly’ identifying her suspected tormentor from a parade of men at the village, some members of the area Nyumba Kumi openly turned against her in defense of the suspect.
“I’m shocked by Nyumba Kumi officials’ attempt to cover the truth when ironically they are supposed to protect us against criminal activity,” added the disgusted granny.
She is now appealing for help and intervention from area leaders and interested human rights watchdogs.
The girl’s father passed on in 2011 before the mother followed suit in 2015.
Kakamega County Assembly Nominated MCA, Mrs. Selah Keya condemned the incident and at the same time expressed her dismay over increasing incidences of defilement and rape cases in Likuyani Sub County.
“Quite a number of the girls have been forced into early pregnancies by rapists who strangely go scot free,” observed Mrs. Keya saying she was irked by Nyumba Kumi officials’ approach on the incident.
She, however, has promised to pick up and follow up the matter to its logical end.
The victim was taken to Kongoni Dispensary for first aid and treatment.
