A 33 year old man died on Wednesday afternoon after drowning in Sosian river at Sosasian village in Lumakanda location Lugari Sub County.
According to Allan Keter who witnessed the incident, his friend Alex Chunguli had gone to wash clothes in the river when the tragedy occurred.
He said after washing his clothes, the deceased decided to bath in the river before he slipped on the rock he was standing on while bathing and drowned.
Keter said his efforts together with other friends to try and rescue him were futile as they were overwhelmed by the river water which dragged him away.
Residents who responded to the distress call said they were left perplexed after seeing a palm tree log pushing him down the river as an eagle flew over it.
Local divers have launched a search for his body.
