Police in Matete are holding in custody a 40 year old man for allegedly defiling his nine year old daughter.

Confirming  the incident, Chevaywa location chief Alex Goricho said the suspect Maurice Gabriel Wanjala has been sexually molesting the minor after separating with his wife about two years ago.

“They used to live in their rural home in Lukova village, Kiliboti sub location before they separated, with the wife remarrying another man in Chenjeni village in the neighboring Kulumbeni sub location leaving him with the children,” said Goricho.

He said after the separation the man who doubles as a tout and boda boda operator at Matete market decided to relocate with the children to a rental house at Matete where he has been defiling his daughter.

He said the sad story was  revealed during a forum organized by government officers in collaboration with non-governmental organizations to interact and share challenges facing young girls which was held at Kivaywa primary school.

He said after talking to the girls and asked them to be free to share their challenges; the minor approached one of the officials separately and narrated to her the saddening ordeal she was going through in the hands of her biological father.

The officers decided to take her for medical examination where it was indeed confirmed that she has been defiled severally.

Goricho said instead of going to hunt for the suspect directly, they laid a trap by asking one of the female teachers to go with the girl to her home where she could spend the night.

After the daughter failed to return home, the man went to school the following morning to inquire where she was before officers from Matete police station nabbed him.

He was taken to Matete police station awaiting arraignment in a Butali court.

Goricho used the opportunity to urge women not to trust their husbands with their daughters saying in case of separation or divorce they should not endanger their daughters by leaving them behind.
