Residents of Kahawa village in Moi’s bridge sub location, Likuyani Sub County have been left perplexed after a 45 year old man committed suicide by hanging himself in a PEFA church bishop’s compound.
The deceased Maruti Napato is said to have walked at night from Kona Mbaya village to Kahawa village about three kilometers away and hanged himself in Bishop Joseph Wachiye’s compound.
According to the bishop, he was informed of the incident by one of his nephews who was passing by before he discovered an object dangling on one of the avocado trees in his compound.
“I was taking breakfast when one of my nephews came and told me somebody was on the avocado tree. I went to the scene where I was shocked to see a body hanging from one of the trees,” said the bishop Wachiye, who later informed the local administration.
The incident attracted tens of residents who on careful inspection of the body identified the deceased, Maruti, who is a mechanic at Kona Mbaya trading center before contacting his family.
The deceased’s brother Mr. George Werunga said the reason behind the suicide has not been established.
He, however, disclosed that the late Maruti who is a father of three has been having domestic wrangles with his wife and it could be the cause for his action. “As a family we’ve never had problems with him apart from his wife whom they have been quarreling with on a regular basis,” said Werunga.
The body was removed by police officers from Matunda and taken to Kitale mortuary for a postmortem as they launched investigations into the incident.
