A gang of robbers broke into Lugari Friends Church in Lugari Sub County and made away with property valued at thousands of shillings. According to the church presiding clerk Francis Mudanya the robbers invaded the church at night and managed to gain entry after breaking the door.
He said nobody heard when the incident occurred and they learnt about the incident on Tuesday morning after being informed by a resident who found Church documents scattered everywhere in the field. “There’s a resident who was going to the shop early in the morning and saw documents thrown in the field near Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) and Salvation Army churches which are about 200 meters away and when he looked at them he discovered they belonged to our church, he then informed me,” said Mudanya.
He said when he went to the church he found one of the main doors broken and also the office door and cupboard where they kept documents had been broken. Mudanya who was flanked by his deputy Mrs. Beatrice Lusala and pastor Kennedy Karani Kamisi together with other Church members said the robbers made away with 100kgs of beans, 45kgs of maize, cash which had been collected to give to a bereaved member as well as offering from members among other property.
He added that the robbers took some vital church document and threw them at PAG and Salvation churches compound. Residents have appealed to the security officers to beef up security saying it was disappointing that the incident happened less than 100 meters from the Lugari division assistant county commissioner’s office which is guarded by police. No arrests have been made so far.
