As students across the country celebrated their sterling performances in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, schools in Likuyani Sub County were engulfed in a carnival mood as they joined the rest in acknowledging impressive results.
Matunda Salvation Army Mixed Day Secondary School produced best top three candidates nationally in sub county schools category.
According to the results released by Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha only four candidates scored A plain in sub county schools category with three of them coming from Matunda SA.
The top three candidates at the school Mukite Brian, Gideon Mwangi and Nyongesa Reuben score a mean grade of A plain with 82, 82 and 81 points respectively
According to the school’s principal Gregory Wanyonyi Wafula, the students had always exhibited exemplary performance since they joined the school.
The school managed 3As, 9 A-, 20 B+, 28 Bs, 30 B-, 38 C+, 37 C,23 C- and 15 D+ and 6D. Wanyonyi pointed out that this was the best results the school had registered positing a positive deviation of 0.877 after managing a mean grade of 7.281 compared to last year’s mean grade of 6.404.
According to the principal, 125 students out of the 206 who sat their exams in the school scored C+ and above mean grades therefore managing a direct entry to university.
He commended the cordial relationship the school enjoyed with the community adding that the healthy competition witnessed between boys and girls was a strong indication that both gender was receiving adequate attention.
At St. Teresa Mukunga mixed day secondary school, students and teachers also celebrated the school’s exemplary performance.
The principal, Moses Wabwile Oruma, attributed the sterling performance to collaboration between the teachers and parents.
The school registered an improved performance by registering a mean score of 5.3 up from 4.31 last year with the top candidate Edwin Manyasi scoring B plain.
According to Wabwile 25 candidates out of 94 who sat their examinations at the school managed to score C+ and above.
He thanked this year’s class of candidates for overcoming many challenges usually associated with day and mixed schools by registering encouraging results.
The Principal promised parents that with help from them the school will keep posting good grades in subsequent exams.
