The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have arrested 5 top Nandi County government officials over an alleged misappropriation of Kshs 19 million. The top officials includes Meshack Tankoi, William Yebei, Leah Chelagat, Henry Kirui and Henry Maritim respectively who are currently held at Eldoret police station.
The money is said to have been paid to a company, M/s Makiki Agencies Limited which is owned by senior County officials, during the tenure of the then Finance and Economic Planning Chief Officer Henry Maritim Koech, The EACC on its investigations report found out that the embezzlement of Kshs 19 million was done under the guise of awarding a tender to supply of water dispensers and road construction which was handed to the aformentioned company.
The charges fronted include conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption for all suspects, deceiving principal against the chairpersons and secretaries of the tender committees for all the suspects, abuse of office ad conflict of interest for Henry Maritim Koech and fraudulent acquisition of public property against Henry Maritim Koech. The suspects will be arraigned in court on Friday.
