A sorrowful mood hung over Manyonyi village, Marakusi sub location in Lugari sub county following the brutal murder of a 52-year-old man whose body was found dumped at Ombwaro trading center Tuesday morning.
According to Mr. Michael Tawishi, after the day’s work, his cowherd Mr. Mathew Ochana left home on Monday evening at about 7:30 to join friends at a local pub at Ombwaro trading center but he never returned.
He said efforts to trace him throughout the night were futile since he didn’t have a cell phone and he was shocked to receive information about his death.
“He is not a regular drinker but whenever I pay him a salary every end month he likes taking one or two beers. On Monday evening I gave him Kshs. 1000 as part of his December salary and he jovially left at about 7:30 pm to the center but he never came back before I received the shocking news of his death,” said Tawishi, who described the deceased as a humble man who never interfered with other people’s businesses.
Confirming the incident, Marakusi sub location assistant chief Edith Ayodi Khakali said a preliminary investigation has hinted that the man was hit by a sharp object on the head adding that he was killed elsewhere and the body dragged to the scene.
“He had a deep cut on the head but it’s shocking there was not even a single drop of blood at the scene. This is a clear indication that he was killed far away and the body was carried to the scene,” said Ayodi.
The body was removed by officers from Lumakanda police station and taken to Webuye mortuary for a postmortem as they launched investigations into the incident.
