Police in Kitale are holding 55 congregants from two churches who had congregated for Sunday Service. The government has banned public gatherings including church services in the country in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 disease and security agencies have been put on notice to make sure their regions abide by
the law.
The congregants from Rapha church in Kitale town, 14 and Alpha and Omega Church in the outskirts of Kitale town at Lukhuna area, 41, were apprehended following a tipoff from the public who notified security agencies of the ongoing services in the churches.
While speaking to the media, Trans Nzoia police commander Ayub Gitonga said the congregants met illegally, possibly putting the lives of others at risk, with the Covid-19 spread thriving on public gatherings and lack of social distancing.
He noted that security organs will not tire in making sure that there are no illegal gatherings and that perpetrators will be seriously dealt with them. He warned the public against defying the government’s directives.
He said the suspects will be charged with offences of engaging in illegal gatherings and putting the lives of Kenyans at risk
of being infected by the Covid-19.
