A 59 year old man was killed for allegedly stealing sweet potatoes from a neighbour’s farm in Bondeni village, Chekalini location, Lugari Sub County.
According to the farm owner Edward Okulo Amuramwa after a series of thefts on his farm he decided to keep guard on Sunday night before he managed to nab the suspect.
“I caught him on my farm at around 4:30am and when he tried to run I hit his leg with a piece of wood breaking it but he tried to attack me before I responded with a crude weapon I was carrying which left him unconscious,” said Okulo who later took himself to Chekalini police to report the incident.
According to Joel Nganasa they heard someone crying for help from Mr. Okulo’s farm at around 5:20am and when they rushed to see what was happening, they were shocked to find Mr. Okulo mercilessly beating their uncle Godfrey Mbakulo.
“He only left him and moved away when he saw us approaching as he shouted, Thief! Thief! Thief!,” said Nganasa.
He said his uncle who was still breathing had all legs and hands smashed with severe stabs on the stomach and head.
”He later succumbed to the injuries before we could rush him to the hospital,” said Nganasa.
The deceased’s brothers Samuel Muyekho and Julius Nganasa condemned the cruel murder of their brother appealed full wrath of law against the suspect.
“My brother is a hardworking man who does casual work to get his basics, I can’t confirm if indeed he is a thief. All we are appealing for as family is justice to prevail,” said Muyekho.
The body was removed by officers from Lumakanda police station and taken to Kimbilio Funeral Home in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County. The suspect is being held at Lumakanda police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.
