Three people died in a fatal accident that involved a truck at Lwandeti trading center a long Eldoret – Webuye highway in Matete, Kakamega County.
According to eyewitnesses the accident occurred after the truck which was ferrying construction materials from the Kenyan coast destined to a neighbouring country veered off the road hit and seriously injured a motorbike rider before falling on two matatu touts on the side of the road killing them on the spot.
The motorbike rider was rescued and rushed to Webuye sub county hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
It’s alleged the driver jumped from the truck while descending from Lwandeti market and vanished leaving the vehicle to proceed and cause the accident.
The residents have appealed to the Kenya National Highway Authority to erect more bumps at the area to check on speeding vehicles and thus help reduce accidents.
The bodies of the victims were moved to the Webuye sub county hospital mortuary, pending postmortem examinations.
