A sorrowful mood enveloped Mirembe village in Kongoni Location, Likuyani Sub County after a 65 year old man was killed and his body dumped in a maize plantation.
According to family members, the deceased Patrick Wanyonyi Buranda, was last seen on Sunday afternoon before his body was discovered dumped in the farm near Kipsangui river on Monday morning.
It is suspected the deceased was killed elsewhere and the body dragged to the scene with preliminary investigations indicating that he was strangled to death.
According to Mr. Protus Omwoyo, he might have been killed by family members who have been salivating for his three acre piece of land.
He said the deceased was neither blessed with children nor a wife and some family members who have sold their land despite having bigger families have always been jealous of him because of his land and they are suspected to be behind his murder.
“My uncle has been going through difficult times from some family members who have been mistreating him and always blocked his attempts to sell part of his land despite them having sold theirs and some of them could be heard telling him to keep it for their children. It is now clear that they had a hidden agenda which has now come to pass because they knew if he sold it to somebody else they wouldn’t have chance to share it amongst themselves since he was a bachelor,” said Omwoyo appealing for justice for his uncle.
Police officers from Matunda station removed the body from the scene and took it to Kitale mortuary for postmortem as they launched investigation into the incident.
