Police in Lugari are holding in custody a 23-year-old woman for killing her four-year-old son and throwing the body in a pit latrine to save her marriage.
Confirming the incident Lugari Sub County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu said the suspect Caroline Ombwaro committed the crime at Lumama village, Lugari Sub Location where she killed her son by suffocating him using clothes.
He said the woman killed the son in the afternoon when they had remained alone in the compound and secretly dumped the body in the pit latrine unnoticed before she left for her salon work.
However, neighbors raised concerned when she returned home alone late in the evening and questioned where she had left the baby but she couldn’t explain.
The suspicious resident launched a search before they discovered the body dumped in unused pit latrine within the compound late in the night.
Sources told West Media that the boy has been the source of unending feud between the suspect and her husband.
Before they married, this lady lied to her husband that she had no child but after settling she went and brought the boy a move that angered her husband and there has been always quarrels between them with the husband maintaining that he cannot take care of the boy,” said the source.
It’s alleged that the boy’s biological father had refused to take responsibilities of taking care of him as well as his grandparents and other relatives from both sides forcing the mother to kill him so as to have peace in her marriage before things turned sour on her.
Ngungu said the suspect is being held at Lumakanda police station as investigations go one before being arraigned in court.
