The body of a 45 year old man was discovered dumped in a sugarcane plantation in Sibale village, Chevaywa location, Matete Sub County.
Confirming the incident, Chevaywa location chief Alex Goricho said the body of Bernard Mukonambi was discovered by a resident who was passing on the road near the sugarcane plantation Saturday morning.
He said the deceased went missing on Tuesday after he was seen in the company of his friends before his body was found dumped in the plantation.
“The family had booked the report of him missing since Tuesday at the Matete police station,” said Goricho.
Goricho said the deceased might have been killed elsewhere and the body hidden for about four days before it was carried and dumped there either in the wee hours of Friday night or Saturday morning.
“The sugarcane is still very short, just about two feet and the place where the body was discovered is near the road and visible. People have been passing there without seeing it, we suspect the body was dumped there at night,” said the local administrator.
The body was removed from the scene by officers from Matete police station and taken to Webuye mortuary in the neighbouring Bungoma County as they launched investigations into the incident.
