DCI officials alongside those from the security department in Kakamega County on Tuesday visited the Kakamega County Government Fertilizer Distribution Center in Kimaget Chemuche Ward, Malava Constituency to assess claims that the fertilizer they are selling is mixed with sand.
The residents of Kimaget village in Chemuche Ward, Malava Constituency are asking the Kakamega County Government to return the money they used to buy the government’s fertilizer, claiming that the fertilizer sold to them is full of stones.
Speaking at the fertilizer selling center in Kimaget, Malava Constituency, the farmers demanded that the county government refund their money, claiming that they do not have faith in the type of fertilizer given to them.
Kakamega Members of the County Assembly led by Minority leader David Ndakwa visited the station to confirm the claims. They faced an outrage by the complainants accusing the Kakamega County government of wanting to sink the agricultural sector which is the backbone of the country in food provision.
However, the CECM for Agriculture in Kakamega County, Benjamin Andama, has asked farmers to have faith in the fertilizer distributed by the government, citing the claims as political.
