Bungoma County Government has taken a major step toward modernizing its education system by expanding its partnership with EIDU, a global leader in tech-based learning solutions. This collaboration is set to revolutionize Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) across the county, benefitting over 60,000 learners and 450 schools.
Engineer Agnes Wachiye, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, formalized the agreement by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with representatives from EIDU. The signing, held at the department’s headquarters, was hailed as a milestone in integrating modern technology into the education system, particularly in early childhood education.
During the ceremony, Engineer Wachiye expressed her excitement about the transformative potential of this initiative. “This marks a significant milestone in integrating modern technology into our education system. With this program, our young learners will gain essential digital skills, and our teachers will be equipped with the tools needed to plan and deliver lessons effectively,” she said.
The partnership will see teachers receive specialized training to use digital tools in their teaching, ensuring they can take full advantage of the EIDU School App. The app, which is aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), offers interactive mathematics and language content.
EIDU’s representative, Joy Wesonga, spoke about the importance of bridging the education gap through technology. “We are excited to deepen our collaboration with Bungoma County and extend access to quality learning resources,” she said. “The EIDU platform will significantly improve learning outcomes and contribute to the broader vision of inclusive and accessible education.”
The digital learning program is set to be rolled out across all 45 wards in the county. Under the agreement, the county and EIDU will jointly fund the program, covering 50% of the costs to ensure it is affordable and sustainable in the long term. Learners will receive smart phones pre-installed with the EIDU School App, which will allow them to access learning materials in a user-friendly and engaging format.
The app’s offline functionality ensures that even learners in rural and remote areas can benefit from the program, further promoting inclusivity in education. The initiative also allows county officials to monitor real-time classroom data, track attendance, and make informed decisions for better policy implementation.
Having already piloted the program in all of its wards, Bungoma County is now ready to expand the rollout, ensuring that more learners and educators can benefit from this innovative approach to education. The county’s commitment to leveraging technology for better learning experiences will help shape the future of education in the region, offering young learners a stronger foundation for their academic journey.
