The former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised an alarm to the security organs in the country over his life being in danger. Through his letter addressed to the Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja Kirocho, the second Deputy President of Kenya sought immediate action and attention from the IG regarding his security, the security of his family, supporters and property.
He went ahead to inform the IG that he has got a constitutional responsibility and duty to protect life and property of every Kenyan as enshrined in the constitution 2010. He however informed the IG through the letter that he was instead perpetuating crime and violence.
Former second in command further accused Kanja of withdrawing his security details in a clear thought out scheme and backward conspiracy to make him vulnerable to organized criminal gangs in cohort with the police and other security Agencies and have been implementing the scheme.
In the letter, the former DP mentioned chronological occurrences that signaled danger to his life and that of his supporters. He captured the event that happened on 28th November 2024 at a solemn funeral service in Limuru, Kiambu County, the former DP said that he was attacked by an organized criminal gang where his vehicle was damaged irreparably, women and children roughed, property of unknown value destroyed. He said that in the event, mourners were also beaten up as police watched.
Another incident mentioned in the letter addressed to IG is dated 28th December 2024 in Shamata Nyandarua County. In this incident, the letter says that the Inspector of Police flanked by organized criminal gangs threw teargas canter at him to scatter his supporters and create a fertile avenue to attack him.
The former Deputy President through the letter ended by demanding that the IG act immediately by arresting and prosecuting all the perpetrators of violence. He also demanded the IG provide the necessary security to all events he will be attending, apart from providing him with his personal security without fail. He further demanded the IG to stop interfering with peaceful gatherings of citizens. With immediate effect he urged the IG to stop NIS officers and other security agencies from stalking and trailing him and his family, plus demand for his home’s protection.
