74,388 students to join public Universities
The Kenya Universities and colleges central placement service (KUCCPS) board yesterday approved cut off points of the 2015 KCSE examination candidates that will join public universities and colleges come September.
Boys who will be joining the University this year have a cut off of B of 60 points and girls a B- of 58 points.
Out of the 525,802 students who sat for the 2015 KCSE examinations only 124,726 of them will get slots in public universities and colleges.
Data from the KUCCPS reveal that a total of 74,388 students have been approved to join university on degree programmes in the 31 public universities in Kenya and 50,338 will join public middle colleges to study diploma courses.
The figure shows there is an increment of 6,598 students compared to the last year’s students that secured a chance to join public universities. Last year 67,790 students were admitted to public universities.
In colleges there is an increment of 5,870 students from last year’s admissions of only 44,468 students that were able to join government Technical Vocational Educational Training colleges.
This data indicate that of the 165,766 students that attained a minimum university entry grade of c+ 91,378 were locked out of slots in public government universities. 96,719 of the 147,057 students who scored C and C- have been locked out to pursue diploma programmes in public colleges.
Moi university will admit 5,825 students, University of Nairobi will take 5,374 students, Kenyatta university will take 5,598 students, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology will admit 4,714 , Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology will take 3,828 students while Maseno University will admit 3,829 students come September.
Details on the diploma college programs placement show that Sigalagala Technical Training Institute will admit the largest number of diploma slots of 3,320 students and Eldoret Polytechnic coming second with 2,740 students.
The board also resolved that the first revision of the courses will commence in two weeks time. Thus will be starting on Monday April 11th and ending on Saturday April 30th.
“Online application system will open for the first revision of degree and diploma choices for the 2016/2017 placement to universities and colleges on Monday April 11 2016 and will close on Saturday April 30, 2016 at midnight.” Read the report.
