As incidences of fire in schools continue to be witnessed across the country, nine students of Sendera high school in Mt. Elgon Sub County were arraigned in court for allegedly attempting to burn down their school on Wednesday.
Before the Kimilili resident magistrate Dickens Onyango, the nine, seven boys and two girls did not take a plea as the complainant requested for more time for the police to complete their investigation regarding the matter.
Some of the students tried to plead with the court to let them go back to their homes as the police continued with their investigations saying some of them are in form four and their mocks are just around the corner urging that they may be negatively affected.
The court ordered for the nine to be remanded at Kapsokwony police station for four days to give the police time to comprehensively carry out their investigations before the case commences again but will stay separately from the rest of the remands.

The magistrate said due to the weight of the allegations the students cannot be released bearing in mind that the country has witnessed many incidences of schools being burnt down therefore the need to have them remanded to ensure investigations are not interfered with.
Meanwhile the school itself has been closed indefinitely after the students went on a rampage and destroyed windows and other properties in the school.
One of the teachers at the school who sought anonymity said it was just fortunate that the school was not burnt down and the suspects were caught in time before they committed the wild act saying some of the reasons they were saying was blaming the cabinet secretary of education Dr. Fred Matiang’i for shortening the holidays.
The management is now waiting for a word from the ministry of education to ascertain when it will resume its normal activities.
