A 17 year old form one student committed suicide by hanging himself after being slapped by his brother in Marachi village, Marakusi Sub Location, Lugari Sub County.
Confirming the incident, Lugari location Chief Evans Adavaji said the deceased John Wekesa a student at Savala secondary school had been assigned some duty by his grandfather Bainito Mukangula but he didn’t do as instructed.
He said when the grandfather returned and found the work incomplete as he had instructed him, he engaged the deceased’s elder brother who is a form four student in the same school to question his young brother on why he had ignored the order he gave him.
In the process the process of disciplining him, the elder brother slapped him after disagreement ensued between them a move that angered Wekesa who looked unsettled.
Adavaji said the two brothers sleeps in different houses and the deceased went to his elder brother’s house at night requesting to have some talk with him but the brother put him off and told him they will talk in the morning.
The young brother left and went back to his house but in the morning he didn’t wake up early to take breakfast with the family as usual.
The grandmother got concerned and went to check on him where he found the door locked from inside and she was forced to peep through an opening on the window where she saw him standing inside.
After calling him without answering she alerted the other family members who broke the window and were shocked to find his body dangling from the rooftop.
The body was removed by officers from Turbo police station and taken to Kimbilio funeral home in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County as they launched investigations into the incident.
