As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations started officially on Monday morning, a candidate at St. Augustine Milimani secondary school in Lugari Sub County did her exam at the Mautuma sub county hospital after giving birth few hours prior to the official exam start time.
Confirming the incident, Lugari deputy County Commissioner William Lenaremo said the candidate who is a day scholar was taken to the hospital by her parents on Sunday night and safely delivered a bouncing baby girl at about midnight.
Lenaremo said they learnt of the incident after dispatching centre managers and when the manager in charge the school discovered one candidate was missing and tried to enquire, he was informed she had delivered hours earlier.
He said medics recommended she sit for the exam while under medical observation at the hospital facility where arrangements were quickly made and the girl went through her first papers without any hitch.
“She was able to sit for her examinations from the hospital without any hitches after the delivery and we expect her to sit for the remaining exams in school after she was given a clean bill of health to leave,” said Lenaremo.
