A sorrowful mood shrouded Koromaiti village in Chekalini location Lugari sub county after a woman’s body was discovered decomposing inside her house.
According to the deceased’s husband Mr. Josphat Shikanda Amakobe, the last time he was with his second wife Emma Mwima Okot was on Wednesday and left to go see his first wife before Emma went missing on Thursday and her body was found later in the house which had been locked with a padlock from inside.
He said when he left the house he went with her phone which had ran on low battery and after charging it he gave it to one of his children to take it to her on Thursday evening but the child returned and informed him that he had not found his step-mother and had instead left the phone with a neighbor to give it to her when she comes back.
However Shikanda said upon receiving the information he was not settled and he immediately started efforts to trace her whereabouts unsuccessfully.
“I came here and confirmed indeed the house had been closed and the steel door had a padlock and since I had no spare key I couldn’t open it,” said Shikanda.
He said after three days of unsuccessful searching he decided to remove one of the iron sheets with the help of neighbours and managed to enter the house where he was welcomed by an odorous smell.
He found the keys on the table in the sitting room and opened the door and on proceeding to the bedroom he was shocked to discover the body of his wife lying uncovered on the bed.
He said last when he was with her she was complaining of headaches.
Health officers visited the scene and fumigated the compound but they could not take samples from the corpse for Coronavirus test since it was oozing blood from the mouth and nose.
Police officers from Lumakanda station instructed the body to be buried immediately strictly adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines as they launched investigations into the incident.
