Simbako disabled group which comprises of persons living with disabilities and their caregivers in Chekalini ward, Lugari Sub County has launched various projects aimed at economically empowering its members.
Speaking in Mukhuyu village, Koromaiti sub location when he gave out piglets to members, the group’s chairman Emmanuel Mulongo Nyongesa said despite their disabilities they are committed to participate in development projects to boost their livelihood instead of begging for help.
“We want to fight the notion that people living with disabilities are beggars , the world should know that despite our disabilities we are abled differently,” said Mulongo.
He disclosed that among the projects being run by the group include; poultry keeping, horticulture farming, piggery, tents and chairs for hire among others.
Saying disability is not inability, Mulongo challenged all disabled persons to exploit available job creation opportunities in order to improve their living standards as well as help spur economic growth and development.
During the exercise, seven members received piglets with Mulongo saying the group intends to ensure each member receive a piglet.
