As the first week of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
(KCSE) examinations ended on Friday, Lwanda Lugari secondary school
in Lugari sub county was thrown into mourning following the death of
one of the candidates who passed on after delivering at the Lumakanda
County hospital.
Catherine Iminza was taken to the hospital on Thursday after
experiencing labor pain as she prepared to do her Kiswahili paper.
The 19 year old girl spent the whole of Thursday whirling in pain
without giving birth and she didn’t do her examination despite all
arrangements being made for her to sit the examination at the hospital.
Following the prolonged labor, doctors at the hospital opted for a
cesarean delivery whereby she successfully underwent cesarean section
and delivered a bouncing baby boy later on Thursday evening.
The medics advised that she be retained at the hospital as they
continue monitoring her situation and she was forced to miss
examination for a second day as she wasn’t strong enough to do
Chemistry practical which was done on Friday.
Unfortunately her situation worsened later Friday evening and she died
at about 6:30 pm.
Confirming the incident Lugari deputy County commissioner William
Lenaremo said the medical report indicated that the girl developed
pressure complications and she died as the medical officers were
preparing to transfer her to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for
more expertise attention.
