A lady who was suspected as being involved in animal theft from Greenvalley village in Marinda Sub Location in Webuye East Sub County who is only known by one name as Catherine was almost lynched by mob today at her home after villagers discovered two cows in her home belonging to Mr. Francis Wanjala from neighbouring Magemo dam village.
Addressing the media at the scene, Mr. Wanjala said he went to check on his cows at 2am and they were safe in their shed but when he woke up at 5am to milk, he could not trace the two cows and after long hours of searching he decided to report the matter at Misikhu police station and on his way back home he was informed by a boda boda rider that some animals have been found at the neighborhood and upon reaching he discovered that they belonged to him.
“I can’t believe have found my cows, they’re my only source of livelihood, had given up but also want to appreciate the villagers for their support without which I wouldn’t have gotten them because theft has become the order of the day in these two villages and the government must reinforce the patrols,” said Wanjala.
Villagers led by Rt. Canon Major Gregory Nabukwesi have condemned theft acts that are rampant in many villagers of Ndivisi ward adding that it has caused them sleepless nights saying many people have lost their properties and the suspect should serve as an example.
He added that the police should use all possible means to make sure that the suspect reveals her accomplice because they believe she can’t be doing it alone.
“It must be a very serious syndicate involving many people and she must be forced to reveal their identity and be arrested so that the vice can end, “said Nabukwesi.
Nyumba Kumi chair Mr. Wycliffe Wafula said for a long time they have been suspecting her and at one time searched her home after rumors of animals being taken there at night but couldn’t manage to get them and appealed to residents to be vigilant and help security fish out thieves who are punishing the community.
The Marinda Sub Location chief Mrs. Elizabeth Wambani Situma confirmed the arrest of the suspect and appreciated residents for their cooperation.
“It’s true we have arrested one lady after we received the information that there are two cows at her home and she’s in police custody waiting to be arraigned in court after police are done with investigations but I thank the residents for their cooperation and Ii appeal to them to continue giving information to police or any relevant office if they suspect unusual people.” She said
