A 37 year old man was stabbed to death by his friend after the two differed while at a local brew drinking den in Itumbu village Chekalini location Lugari Sub County.
According to Andrew Situma he bumped into the two, Joshua Mukola and Khisa Wandera fighting on the road near the den while on his way to the shop forcing him to intervene and separate them.
He said Mukola had been stabbed and bleeding profusely and efforts to save his life were futile and he succumbed to the injuries minutes later.
“After separating the two I tried to look for a motorbike to rush Mukola who had been seriously injured to hospital but I couldn’t get one. I then rushed to inform his family but when I came back with his brother we found him already dead,” said Situma.
According to the deceased’s brother Philip Osundwa, the two started quarrelling at the drinking den leading to the fight that caused his brother’s death.
Residents have accused police of encouraging brewing and taking of the illicit liquor by collecting money from the brewer every month.
They have threatened to take laws into their hands and fight the brewers alleging that this was a third person to be killed in a duel resulting from illicit brew.
However, an unconfirmed report says that the two were fighting over a woman leading to Mukalo’s death.
The incident prompted angry residents to descent on the suspect with all manner of crude weapons baying for his blood before he was rescued by officers from Chekalini police post and rushed to hospital.
Confirming the incident, Lugari Sub County police commander Bernard Ngungu said investigations have been launched to establish the reason behind the murder.
The body was removed and taken to Kimbilio funeral home in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County.
