An unidentified body of a man has been discovered decomposing in a sugarcane plantation in Kampi Moto village, Lumakanda location, Lugari Sub County.
According to the area village elder Samuel Makokha, the body was discovered by young men who were spraying herbicide in the plantation.
“One of the men called and informed me that they had found a human body in the plantation. I alerted assistant chief and we rushed to the scene where we confirmed it was true,” said Makokha.
He said it was suspected that the man was killed elsewhere by unknown assailants who later carried the body and dumped it there.
“His body and clothes are muddy and this is not the mud from this area because it doesn’t resemble our soil here,’’ said the village elder.
Confirming the incident Munyuki sub location assistant chief Celestine Asige said some documents were found dumped near the body indicating he might be a resident of Malava Sub County.
“We found a copy of national identification card and two death certificates which indicates that the burial permits were issued by Matsakha sub location assistant chief in Malava Sub County,” said the local administrator.
She appealed to anyone who might have lost a male adult friend or relative to visit Webuye mortuary or liaise with her office or police to help identify the body.
She also urged residents to ensure they report to the authority whenever their kin go missing without a trace for 24 hours.
The body was removed by officers from Lumakanda police station and taken to Webuye mortuary as they launched investigations into the incident.
