As 2022 politics start taking shape with alignment and realignment of politicians and political parties, a new party has been launched in Webuye.
The DAP Kenya party was launched as the leadership of the party distanced themselves from the rumours that the party is associated by Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa.
Addressing the media in one hotel in Webuye town, party leadership led by its General Secretary Benard Masanja said the party is fully registered after passing all the requirements of Registrar of Political Parties.
He said the new party will operate differently from other existing political parties by embracing democracy, transparency and accountability especially during the nominations that Mr. Masanja says has affected many parties where there are sacred people who don’t go through rigorous nomination but instead handed direct nomination and appealed those who wish to join it to be ready for competitive nomination.
“We want to operate differently because we have learnt a lot from other parties and we will allow the rule of democracy to be our cardinal rule and there will be no sacred cows,” said Masanja.
Masanja added that they are set to move across all forty seven counties and market their outfit and waded off the notion that the party only seems to have a following in Western region and said it has a huge following in Coastal region, Central Kenya and other parts of the country and are ready to work with any like-minded people who share their dreams and aspirations.
The party distanced itself from rumours doing rounds on social media that the party is fronted by Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and said he does not hold any position and he is not even a member.
He said leadership of the party are drawn from across the country and that shows that the party is a national party and it has started attracting membership across the political divide.
The leadership of the party has Mr. David Muchele as its chairman, Benard Masanja as General Secretary and Mrs. Beatrice Mbingi as its treasurer though the position of party leader was left something that has raised eyebrows and make people feel that the position has been left out intentionally to be filled by Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who is still serving in his position as Devolution Secretary and law bars him from holding any position for any political party.
However, the big task will be how the new party on the block will be able to compete with other political parties which enjoy massive backing from Bungoma and Western region among them Ford Kenya led by Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula which has leadership wrangles but has three MPs, a senator, woman rep and a governor with majority MCAs in Bungoma County Assembly , ANC led by Musalia Mudavadi which has one Member of Parliament Hon Alfred Wekesa Sambu of Webuye East in Bungoma County and several MCAs and UDA party which is associated with the Deputy President Dr William Ruto which has a backing of four mps, Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, Kimilili MP Didmus Wekesa Barasa, Mt Elgon MP Fred Kapondi and Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama plus several MCAs especially who were elected on Jubilee party ticket.
