A night guard at one of the business premises at Lugari Station Market is nursing machete injuries after he was attacked by thugs while on duty.
Speaking to West Media Mr. Jacob Lyanda Wafula a guard at Rubani building said a gang of about six men armed with crude weapons invaded the premises at around 2:00 am and attacked him with a machete, cutting him twice on the head.
“They thought I was asleep and they had an intention to kill me so that they could get an opportunity to steal but when I rose up and questioned what they were looking for at that wee hour of the night, one of them attacked me with the machete,” said Mr. Lyanda.
He said he raised an alarm forcing the unidentified men to flee without stealing anything from the premises.
The alarm attracted attention of neighbors who immediately responded to his distress call, saved and rushed him to a nearby private health facility at the market where he received First Aid before being transferred to Webuye Sub county hospital.
Residents led by Joash Bokeni have decried rampant cases of robbery in the area which have left several people with injuries with dozens of others losing their property.
They said the thugs were so daring that they have even broken and stole from various government offices including the area Assistant County Commissioner’s office, registrar of persons office among others.
Mr. Bokeni has urged businessmen to install CCTV cameras in their premises to help identify and nab the suspects.
