A 58 year old man died on the spot after being electrocuted while pruning a tree in Lugari forest near Lumama primary school in Lugari location, Lugari Sub County.
According to Mr. Isaiah Indimuli Sumba, his brother Thomas Lung’aho Sumba who is a prelate with Baptist church and also an expert of making traditional seats had climbed to prune a cypress tree which he uses its branches to make the seats when he met his death.
An eyewitness told West Media that the deceased had just cut the first branch that fell on the lines electrocuting him before he fell down.
“I just saw flames of fire on the top of the tree then he fell down, when I rushed to the scene I found him already dead before I alerted neighbours,” narrated a resident who sought anonymity.
Residents led by Florence Okwemba and Silus Nyongesa alias” Mayor wa Lumama” have regretted the incident appealing to Kenya Power and Lighting Company to ensure all trees near the power lines are cut as a preventive measure.
Confirming the incident, Lugari location chief Mr. Evans Adavaji termed it unfortunate, appealing to residents to be extra careful while working near the power line.
”Our people should know that power is good but also very dangerous. They should be very careful and not to joke around with it,” said Mr. Adavaji.
