Residents of Mlimani at the border of Kakamega and Uasin Gishu counties got an opportunity to loot fuel after a petrol tanker was involved in an accident in the area along Eldoret – Kitale road.
According to eyewitnesses, the Saturday afternoon accident occurred after the tanker driver was unable to control the vehicle as it descended the steep Mlimani slope heading towards Moisbridge.
They said the tanker veered off road and rolled, injuring the driver who was later rescued and rushed to Moisbridge health center.
Hundreds of residents who near thronged the scene with cans and started siphoning the diesel before police arrived.
However the arrival of police didn’t scare them as they engaged the security officer in a running battle leaving some of them with injuries
The defiant residents continued looting the fuel as with some selling it to the motorists along the road.
