A three year old girl died while his seven year old brother was rescued in critical condition after they fell in 40 feet deep borehole in Ivugwi village Soy Sub location, Likuyani Sub County.
Confirming the incident Soy sub location assistant chief Bonivanture Lugado said the two children were playing in their neighbour’s compound when the tragedy occurred.
He said the deceased opened the borehole without the knowledge of his brother who just heard her crying as she fell in the borehole forcing the brother to jump in with the effort to rescue her.
Efforts by villagers to rescue the two children were thwarted by the depth and the water volume and they only managed to rescue the seven year old boy while the three year old girl was already dead.
The boy was rushed to Likuyani Sub County hospital where he is admitted while his sister’s body was taken to Kimbilio mortuary for postmortem.
According to Mr. James Onyango a nyumba kumi official, the deceased’s mother who is a single parent just moved in the area recently where she has been living with her two children in a rental house for the past few weeks.
