A somber mood has engulfed Nzoia village, Kongoni location in Likuyani sub county in Kakamega county after a 65-year-old woman and her 13-year-old niece were raped and killed on Sunday night.
According to Beatrice Obware, who is a daughter to the deceased, bodies of her mother Jerusa Nduvi Obware and her cousin Melvyn Ndidi were discovered by their farmhand who had woken up to milk their cows on Monday morning.
She said the farmhand become concerned after he found the doors open at about 6:00 am but there wasn’t anybody outside. “He tried to call but there was no response, he the entered the house to find out what was going on and it’s when he was shocked to find the two bodies lying on the bed,” explained Beatrice adding that Melvyn was a standard six pupil at St. Michael primary school.
She said the farmhand rushed to wake her brother who later informed other family members, revealing that the mother only lived with the cousin in that house.
She said the unknown assailants might have entered and hid inside the house earlier without her mother noticing saying there was no any sign of breakage on the still doors.
The security team led by Lugari Sub County police commander Patrick Maundu and his Likuyani counterpart Boniface Lisiolo and the sub county criminal investigation officer Kennedy Limela visited the scene.
Confirming the incident, Mr. Maundu said preliminary investigations indicate that the two were raped before being strangled to death.
The Sub County police boss said there were no visible injuries on the two bodies apart from their private parts. Maundu said the reason behind that monstrous act has not been established and called for calmness as investigations into the incident commence.
Residents led by retired chief Paul Nabangi Makete have condemned the incident and appealed for thorough investigation that will ensure those involved in the brutal murder of the two face the full wrath of law. The two bodies were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Eldoret for postmortem.
