Busia gubernatorial candidate on an Independent ticket Dr Paul Otuoma has named former District Commissioner Solomon Abwaku from Teso North Sub County as his running mate.
Otuoma’s sent a signed letter to IEBC, highlighting Abwaku’s details, including ID number, attached copies of his degrees and clearance from Registrar of Political Parties to enable the commission to clear him as Otuoma’s running mate.
The nomination of Abwaku ends weeks of speculation on who Otuoma had settled on as his running mate. Abwaku said he had accepted the request from Dr Otuoma to be his running mate. “I am prepared to take care of the interests of the Teso community if voters will elect us into office on August 8th,” he said.
Abwaku has 26 years of checkered career in public service. He entered the public service as a DO cadet in 1990 before rising to the position of District Commissioner in 2008.
He resigned in 2006 as a Senior Deputy County Commissioner in Muhoroni to pursue his Master’s degree in International Studies. Apart from the degree in Sociology he has also acquired a Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Governance.
The race for the Governor seat has attracted five aspirants including incumbent Sospeter Ojaamong on ODM ticket, Paul Otuoma (Independent), Humphrey Nakitare (ANC), Michael Oloo (Ford Kenya) and Engineer Daniel Barasa (Jubilee).
