A pastor at Likuyani’s Soy Baptist church and his two children died following a grisly road accident which involved a lorry and a motorbike along Eldoret-Kitale road. Area Traffic Police Commander, Mr. Andrew Muchemo confirmed the tragedy that occurred at Kipsangui Bridge near Soy trading centre.
“The accident happened when the lorry driver attempted to overtake five vehicles ahead of him,” said Muchemo, adding the lorry veered off the road before knocking the motorbike. The pastor was riding the motorbike, with his two sons as passengers.
The cleric, Mr Tom Wasai, died on the spot, while the sons died on the way to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret where they were being rushed for treatment.
Regretting the incident, the area traffic boss has advised motorists and other road users to observe traffic rules and regulations.
“The tragedy would easily have been avoided had the lorry’s driver been keen to observe traffic rules on speeding and overtaking,” noted Muchemo.
Security agencies in the area are hunting down the lorry’s driver who ran away after causing the accident. The three bodies have been preserved at the hospital mortuary.
