The Civil Society group has lauded the government for its decision to implement the Public Benefit Organization Act signed into law in 2013. The law was erected to point out significant issues like governance, developmental projects, and leadership in Public Benefits Organizations and Civil Society Reference Group (CSRG).
Presiding convener of the CSRG Suba Churchill said that there will be momentous development after the Ministry of Devolution and Planning helped to laud the PBO Act. In addition, it will create a conducive environment for the growth and impact of the voluntary sector in the Country.
“We particularly want to single out the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Mwangi Kiunjuri for appropriately advising the government on the need to finally implement this law that will restore confidence and cooperation from all stakeholders,” said Mr. Churchill.
Churchill was addressing members of the fourth estate in Nairobi saying that the new legislative framework will benefit Organizations and develop agencies.
The leadership implemented in the PBO Act aims at ruling with integrity and the right to freedom of association in Article 36 of the Constitution.
Article 36 of the Constitution is clear that any legislation that requires registration of an association of kind shall provide that: registration may not be withheld unreasonably and there shall be a right to have a fair hearing before a registration is canceled.
“We laud the government for making the right step in recognizing the need to establish an enabling environment for the continued contribution to this sector in national development,” added Churchill.
Churchill also dismissed claims that NGO’s fund terrorist activities, insisting that no cases have yet been reported for a lawful action to take place.
