Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has ordered Agricultural Development Corporation ADC to lease its land to Kenya Seed Company.
Kenya Seed Company is now doing 23000 hectares of seed and ADC will add to the Company 23,000 ha of land and that it was targeting 50,000 for seed during the next season 2024-2025 planting season.
CS Linturi while addressing media after joining the management of Kenya Seed Company during its Field Day that was held at Elgon Downs if Endebess Sub County of Trans Nzoia,Cs Linturi noted that it was time for two companies to work together in realization of efficient seed within the country and outside.
Linturi appealed to farmers to register in order for them to procure subsidized fertilizer that the government intends to produce in readiness for the short planting season as well as calling them to plant short maturing crops to alleviate looming hunger.
The CS thanked Kenya Seed for having invested heavily in technology that has helped farmers gain information of bettering their farming practices giving examples of producing tolerant seeds that has gone a long way of checking on deficiency of food crops in the country.
On his part, acting MD for Kenya Seed Company Sammy Chepsiror commended research in the company that had helped cushion farmers from deficiency of quality certified seeds.
He appealed to farmers in the country to engage in better farming practices as well as visit the Seed Company for several field days organized by the company to improve on their farming produce.
