Adventists put smiles on street children faces

The seventh day Adventist church in Bungoma county like any other church stretched its helping hand towards the street children in Bungoma by donating  clothes, food  and other basic requirements.

In an  event organized by the leaders of the Seventh Day Adventist church to put a smile  on the street children faces they had to rule out the idea of neglegence in society towards the children

Speaking during the event, Pastor Naphtali Wafula of the SDA church said that it is a collective responsibility for very member in the  society to ensure that street children are helped and even e removed from the streets to make  enhance the good shape of Bungoma town

”The church will not sit back and watch  our children suffer on the streets . We have a responsibility to help the kids and ensure they live a better life”said Pastor Wafula.

The clergy added that plans are underway  to set up a rehabilitation centre through the help of well wishers and the government in order to accommodate the street kids and offer them a place they can call home.

He urged  Christians who are blessed in one way or another  to consider adopting  some of the street children as a way of helping them and the society at large

He asked them to participate in sponsoring their education and help them achieve greater heights and grab job opportunities in the market a move that will settle them away from social vices.

He also called upon other churches to extend a helping hand to the  the children who are becoming a menace in the streets of Bungoma.

On spiritual nourishment he had this to the street children”I urge all of you to identify a church and attend services instead of sitting in the streets throughout the week, you wont regret taking such a move  for your lives will be transformed” he added.

James Wafula Wekesa,the leader of the street kids in Bungoma town lamented over police harassment saying it was the greatest  challenge they face.

He also narrated o an incidence that he had to fight with the police when they beat up and broke one of their owns leg.

Wekesa who has stayed  in the streets for the last 18 years admitted that  they go through a lot and therefore if a  rehabilitation centre will be set up it will be of great help to them

He thanked the organizers of the  event to put a smile on their faces, saying that it was  a great move and relief to the street family

The Chief Executive Committee member in charge of Housing and sanitation in Bungoma county John Munyasia said the county government has plans of setting up a rehabilitation centre and that it had already  identified a place to put up a building for the street children..

He confirmed that more money will be set aside in the  financial year 2015/2016
