Agriculture CS Peter Munya has been blamed by a section of coffee farmers from Bungoma County for failure to highlight and solve the problems facing coffee farmers in the county. Speaking in Bungoma during the coffee farmers meeting, Mr Harrison Wafula Mukundu, chairman of the coffee farmers association Bungoma County blamed the Agriculture CS for not considering coffee farmers from Bungoma County to help them get their rightful share of the recently introduced coffee funds by President Uhuru Kenyatta to cushion coffee farmers.
Mr. Mulunda has urged Munya together with Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati to help coffee farmers get their dues which haven’t been paid.
Bungoma County has also been urged to put in place measures that will ensure coffee farmers get coffee seedlings to help boost coffee farming in the region.
Ben Wekunda, one of the managing directors of Menu coffee factory in Bungoma County said coffee farming is likely to boom if only the County government will provide farmers with farm inputs at the appropriate time. He urged the County government to speedily complete the construction of Musese coffee factory, saying it will bneefit farmers and reduce transportation costs. He alluded that this year, coffee farmers have been affected by low sales due to the impact of Covid-19.
