The County government of Nandi in conjunction with the Agricultural Sector Development Support program (ASDP) is planning to launch the Agriculture value-chain Incubation Initiative this Friday at Kapsabet Boys High school.
During the launch there will be exhibitions,panel discussions,entertainments and speeches and the ceremony will be presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Hon. Dr. Willy Bett.
The Agricultural sector development Support Program (ASDP) is a sector-wide program implemented by the government of Kenya in Collaboration with the government of Sweden.
Its overall objective is to achieve an agricultural growth rate of 7% per annul through commercialization and modernization of the sector.
Its Implementation action started in the year 2012, with an overall goal of to transform Kenya’s agricultural sector into an innovative, commercially oriented, competitive and modern industry that will contribute to poverty reduction ,improved food security and equity in rural and urban Kenya.
The initiative aims at providing support mechanisms for upscaling and out scaling innovative value chains and value chain technologies through a mentorship program for increased and equitable incomes,employment and food security of the target groups as a result of improved production and productivity in the rural smallholder farm, and off-farm sector.
Some of the counties which have rolled out these value chains include the County of Kisumu which rolled out the Fish value chain,Makueni County for the Mango value chain and Nandi which rolled out the Fish value chain.
These Counties were facilitated by ASDP program to prioritize value chains and made their presentations of their value chain plan during the official National launch.
