Aldai Member of Parliament Hon Cornelius Serem has asked the Boda boda riders in Aldai region to register and join the Saccos so as to enable them be enrolled in the government initiative programs.
Serem cited that Bodaboda operators should join all the registered Saccos in for them to benefit from the government money including the CDF, Youth Enterprise Funds and Affirmative Action respectively.
The legislator, who was speaking in his constituency, cited that there are many youth empowerment programs including the Uwezo fund and the Affirmative Action which target small entrepreneurs in a bid to help mitigate the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic which has negatively affected the country’s economy and businesses.
He added that the essence of registering and joining Saccos is aimed at enabling members of a given Sacco get access to the empowerment funds thus reminded those who have not made any attempts to join and do swiftly so that they can’t be locked out.
“I want to ask bodaboda operators who have not joined any Sacco to consider doing so for their own benefits,” he affirmed.
On the issue of business, the MP revealed that his office has set aside about Kshs 10 M for women, youth and PWD’s groups who have ventured into small scale businesses.
“It is my call that these groups commence small businesses within the community as this will boost the economy and creation of job opportunities,” Serem added.
He revealed that he has set aside Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for renovations and elevation of markets across his constituency which in turn will assist in creating a business environment for small medium enterprises.
