All eyes have shifted to the Building Bridges Initiative after the task force completed taking views from Kenyans on a wide range of issues.
The team finished collecting views from Kenyans on Friday and are expected to present a report to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga by the end of September. The 14-member task force which was formed after the handshake between President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga was tasked with evaluating challenges Kenya faces towards building bridges and coming up with lasting solutions. It was also tasked with outlining policy, reform proposals and implementation modalities for the outlined challenges.
The taskforce joint secretaries are Amb. Martin Kimani and Paul Mwangi and includes Adams Oloo, Agnes Kavindu, Senator Amos Wako, Florence Omose, Saeed Mwanguni, James Matundura, Major John Seii, Bishop Lawi Imathiu, Maison Leshomo, Senator Mohamed Yusuf Haji, Morompi Ole Ronkai, Pro. Bishop Peter Njenga, Rose Moseu and Archbishop Zecheaus Okoth.
However, the Building Bridges Initiative team distanced itself from Ekuro Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo Initiative, the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) and the Ndung’u Commission. There had been suggestions that both are geared towards constitutional changes, but the BBI team chair Yusuf Haji said the team isn’t in any way connected to the Punguza Mizigo initiative.
