All the Independent candidates in Nandi ranging from the MCA seat to the gubernatorial didn’t see the light of the day in this year’s general elections as they were sent parking by the electorates who instead chose to go the six piece way by electing the United Democratic Alliance(UDA) party candidates.
Nandi County had many Independent candidates who lost in party nominations and opted to run independently but they did not sail through due to party wave where the electorates under the influence of the UDA party leader William Samoei unanimously agreed to support the party thus anybody not in the party was sent home.
Former Nandi Governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat and three others running on an independent ticket lost it to the incumbent governor Stephen Sang.
Among the incumbent MPs in Nandi who were vying independently included Vincent Tuwei of Mosop, Cornelius Serem of Aldai and the vocal Alfred Keter of Nandi Hills whom all of them lost it to their UDA opponent nominees.
The County Woman Representative Dr. Tecla Tum who was running for Emgwen seat independently lost it to Cynthia Muge the incumbent MCA Kilibwoni Ward.
Tindiret incumbent MP Julius Melly retained his seat after being re-elected for a third time with 38,715 votes against his opponent Samuel Malakwen who garnered 2,275 votes respectively.
The newly UDA elected MPs include; Mary Anne Kitanyi (Aldai), Josees Lelmengit (Emgwen), Bernard Kitur (Nandi Hills), Paul Biego (Chesumei) and Abraham Kirwa (Mosop) thanked the electorates for believing and according them a chance to serve in the parliament vowing to work together in ensuring development of the region.
